On Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Daniel Löwenborg from Uppsala University, also joining us as a representative of Swedigarch, for the Interactive Research Workshop: "AGES – Archaeological Geodata in Swedigarch, Today and Tomorrow".
In the hands-on session, Daniel showed us the potential of large-scale excavation geodata for new archaeological analysis and knowledge production forms. Participants explored AGES datasets using QGIS and the Swedigarch Geotools plugin, exploring how GPKG (Geo-package)-formatted data, converted from Intrasis, can be analysed directly in QGIS.
The second part sparked critical discussion on the need for standardising geodata in Swedish contract archaeology to make it fully FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable).
Daniel highlighted how this is essential to enable integrated, computer-based analysis alongside finds and scientific results in the future.
